The Joys of Four Months Into Motherhood
My daughter is officially four months old and instead of sharing her, I am sharing me. Yes, the mama. The mama who is four months into her postpartum journey. I know how much of a trend it is to share the milestones of your baby, but what about the mother's milestones? I thought about sharing lots of overcoming postpartum struggles but, why not share about the joys of the new mom life instead?
10 Random Things I Enjoy About New Motherhood:
1. Being a mom. That had to be #1.
2. Waking up to baby girl hyped and happy even when I want to sleep a little longer. It is a joy to see her smile and kick her little feet with excitement when she sees Mommy and Daddy in the morning.
3. Encouraging first-time moms through their journey of pregnancy, especially during COVID-19. During my last two months of pregnancy, I had to prepare to deliver my baby girl during a pandemic. I am thankful for the godly wisdom and grace that carried me to the end.
4. Believing God for mothers who want to start a family. Yes, I pray. I pray for your miracle.
5. Growing with and learning my husband better through parenting. It is important to keep things fresh with your spouse, even if it looks a bit different.
6. FaceTiming my friend in Detroit weekly during diaper changes, baths, and nap times. There is nothing more encouraging than having a mom friend who is there to pray with you, laugh with you, and share mommy moments.
7. Bonding while nursing and skin-to-skin time. Sometimes I just reflect on my delivery in the hospital. I am amazed at the beautiful little girl that came out of my womb.
8. Justifying why I need new clothes because nobody told me half my clothes weren’t going to be convenient for nursing. I am always laughing at myself at the outfits I try to force knowing it isn't going to work with my daughter's nursing schedule.
9. Texting my big sister of three children 1,000 times a week about mom things and her having the answer pretty much every time.
10. Lastly, hearing family, friends, and other moms cheer me on saying things like, “You got this.” I don't have all the answers to this new mom life but I love hearing others encourage me as I journey through it.
Here’s to four months postpartum. What has your postpartum journey been like so far?
